Just as willpower is an essential factor in achieving success, at some point in time, discouragement and lack of motivation may hinder you from reaching your objective. And it is up to you, and you alone to devise techniques that will help you keep that drive within afire.

It is helpful to have visual goals. whatsoever that is you are working towards, make it visual. It maybe something material like a car, or a vacation you have been looking forward to for the longest time.

Take or cut out a picture of it and post it at a conspicuous place at work or at home where you can see it often. So that when you feel discouraged, this will remind you of your goal and will help you keep your spotlight.

Make a contract with oneself. According to motivational researches, people who write down to-do-lists are far more triumphant in achieving their intended goals than those people who just keep mental lists instead.

Putting something in writing somehow makes it more powerful psychologically speaking. This may also be the basis why most cultures have such a high regard in honoring contracts. In the contract, you may also include a certain reward that you will give yourself once you have accomplished the task.

After all, everyone likes to be rewarded for completing a good job. Even a simple pat on the back, “good job”, or “thank you” may do the trick to give the person the additional push to carry on, but unfortunately, these may not always be readily available. Considering that these are also essential in keeping oneself motivated, you must learn to find a way to get that encouragement on your own through pleasing yourself.

Abusive people lower your self-esteem and bring you down. Get these negative people out of your life. Surround yourself with positive people. Imitate their example. Smile amply and think happy thoughts.

These will give you a brighter outlook and lets you see a clearer picture of what you really want and a fresh mind to know what steps to take to get there. Rather than wait for things to happen, try to be proactive and MAKE THINGS HAPPEN. Inactivity idles the brain and stagnates your potential to reach your goals.

Break down the apparently unattainable activity to small doable steps. Not only does it become less overwhelming, but seeing the "in the meantime" results will further your confidence that it can indeed be done.

Read inspirational books and literature. These will help you improve your attitude and heal your mind. A book of success stories also proves to be encouraging. You will not only learn from others’ experiences and derive confidence boosting insights from them but the story will be instrumental in motivating you to go for your goal and move ahead with your plans. If this still seems to falter, get training or education.

Oftentimes, not knowing how or where to start is frustrating. Knowledge is power. Having a clear understanding of how and where to start is empowering and it will provide the extra drive needed to hit the mark you are aiming at and follow it through.

Having enumerated all these tips and tricks to attain self-motivation, but still you seem to feel lacking that much needed drive, there is one last thing that you must try.

Lack of motivation happens to us all, but if you do not encourage yourself to accept opportunities and be challenged, no one se will. It is most important to keep your eye on the goal, find ways to keep going, and in no time, you shall reap its benefits.

Whatever it is that you have been meaning to do, or wanting to achieve, JUST DO IT! Keep on aiming high and go for it! Actually getting your hands dirty best solves the problem of motivation. By “forcing” yourself to just do it, your momentum will pick up gradually as you go along and before you know it you have finished the task or have finally achieved your goal. Divide and conquer is the key.

And if at the beginning you were just doing it for the material reward, you will also learn to realize that the fulfillment, satisfaction and self-achievement you derive from reaching your goal is a much enjoyable high that will keep the drive within constantly burning.

While everybody has dreams, not everyone succeeds in achieving them. It may seem like some people have all the luck in the world that they always get the things that they aim for but the truth is these people are not just lucky, they are patient and determined, too. Perhaps the first thing that these people have that helped them succeed is confidence.

You need to believe in yourself and what you can do in order to live your dreams. Do not linger in your failures. While your mistakes are important for your growth, dwelling on them will make you feel as if you cannot do anything right. So, take the time to look at your past achievements, too, no matter how small they seem to you. Realize that you do have what it takes to live your dreams.

Being specific with your dream list helps you come up with doable strategies in achieving your dreams. Identify the steps that you need to take in order to live your dreams. In the example above, some examples of key actions may include starting an exercise program and eating less during dinner. Make sure you choose realistic steps. For instance, if you dream of saving up a certain amount of money by the end of the year you want to make sure that it is possible for you to raise that amount with the income that you have, otherwise, you are just setting yourself up for a big disappointment.

Having a strong commitment is the key to live your dreams. Your resolutions and promises to yourself will mean nothing if you fail to prioritize your dreams when distractions arise. This is also where your written statements become helpful. They can remind you to focus on your earlier commitments. Writing your progress is also a great way to track what you have achieved so far and what areas you still need to work on.

Armed with positive energy, reflect on the things that you want to achieve, both long term and short-term. In order to live your dreams, you need to be very clear about what you want. Write down your dreams. Be specific and always include a time frame. For example, instead of simply saying I want to lose weight change it to I want to lose 30 pounds in five months.

Lastly, it is best to live your dreams and share your successes with loved ones. So, in your pursuit of your dreams do not forget your family or your friends. Always take the time to be with them and show them how much you appreciate their support.

I am going to ask you to something very weird right now. First of all, I want you to listen to your thoughts. Now tell me, what thoughts fill your head? Would you label them as positive, or negative?

Now let’s say you are walking down the street with these thoughts. Do you think anyone who would meet you would be able to tell you what’s on your mind?

The answer to number one is up to you. But, the answer number two can be pretty generic. Although people will not be able to tell you exactly what you think, they will more or less have an idea of how you are feeling.

Here’s another question. When you enter a party filled with friends, do they all fall silent as if something terrible had happened? Or does everybody there perk up as if waiting for something exciting to happen?

You know what? The answer to all these depends on your frame of mind.

Thoughts are very powerful. They affect your general attitude. The attitude you carry reflects on your appearance, too – unless, of course, you are a great actor.

And it doesn’t end there. Your attitude can also affect people around you.

The type of attitude you carry depends on you. It can be either positive or negative.

Positive thoughts have a filling effect. They are admittedly invigorating. Plus, the people around the person carrying positive thoughts are usually energized by this type of attitude.

Negative thoughts on the other hand have a sapping effect on other people. Aside from making you look gloomy and sad, negative thoughts can turn a festive gathering into a funeral wake.

A positive attitude attracts people, while a negative attitude repels them. People tend to shy away from those who carry a negative attitude.

We can also define attitude as the way of looking at the world. If you choose to focus on the negative things in the world, more or less you have a negative attitude brewing up. However, if you choose to focus on the positive things, you are more likely carry a positive attitude.

You have much to gain from a very positive attitude. For one, studies have shown that a positive attitude promotes better health. Those with this kind of attitude also have more friends. projecting a positive attitude also helps one to handle stress and problems better than those who have a negative attitude.

A positive attitude begins with a healthy self-image. If you will love the way you are and are satisfied, confident, and self-assured, you also make others are around feel the same way.

A negative attitude, on the other hand, has, of course, an opposite effect. So, carrying a negative attitude has a twofold drawback. You feel bad about yourself, and you make others feel the same way.

If you want to have a positive attitude, you have to feature healthy thoughts. This is probably very hard to do nowadays since, all around us, the media feeds us nothing but negative thoughts. A study shows that for every 14 things a parent says to his or her child, only one is positive. This is truly a saddening thought.

If you want a healthier outlook in life, you need to think happy thoughts, and you have to hear positive things as well. So, what can you do? Well, for starters, you could see a funny movie, you could play with children, spend some time telling jokes with friends. All these activities fill you with positive stimuli, which in turn promotes positive attitude.

Although it is impossible to keep ourselves from the negative things around us, you can still carry a positive attitude by focusing on the good things, the positive things in life.

And this positive attitude you now carry can be of benefit to other people. Sometimes when other people feel down, the thing people mostly do is try to give them advice. But sometimes, all they need is somebody to sit by them, and listen to them. If you have a positive attitude you may be able to cheer them up without even having to say anything.

If positive attitude is really great, why do people choose to adopt a negative attitude instead? One who carries a negative attitude may be actually sending a signal for attention. Before you get me wrong, feeling sad, angry, or gloomy is not wrong itself. But dwelling on these thoughts for far too long is not healthy either. There is a time to mourn.

As always, if you are beset by troubles, even in your darkest hour, focus on the good things in life, you will always have hope. Problems become something you can overcome.

You do not have much to lose by adopting a healthy, positive attitude. Studies show that such an attitude actually retards aging, makes you healthier, helps you develop a better stress coping mechanism, and has a very positive effect on all the people you meet every day. So, what’s not to like about a positive attitude? Adopt one today.

People have different dreams and goals in life. These dreams and goals can be a better life for you and your family through financial freedom or it can be physical, emotional and spiritual wellness. What is good about having dreams and goals is that we have the power and the ability to pursue and achieve them. However, it is very important to set dreams and goals that are realistic. All you need is to come up with a plan and then device a strategy. It is not that simple but it is very attainable.

The first thing that you should know is what your dreams and goals are. You should be able to determine what you want. This is not about what you now have or what you have already done. You should take time to really find out what you need and what you want. Reflect and listen to what your heart dictates. Everybody has dreams and goals. All you have to do is dig them up.

You will only know what your dreams and goals are if you listen to yourself. When you listen to others, you may hear their dreams and goals in life and a lot of them will try to impose their plans on you. Chances are you will end up trying to fulfill dreams and goals that are not the desires of your heart.

Below are some tips on how to know your heart’s dreams and goals:

Take some time to listen to yourself – Often times we forget to take some time to be quiet and internalize on some things. We are always in a hurry and we constantly listen to the noise around us. You can hear your heart say what you really want when you are in a quiet and peaceful state. Set a quiet time for you to know your dreams and goals. Remember to set aside anything that will distract you.

Think of what excites you – When you are in a quiet and peaceful state, think of something that really gets you excited. You should think of what you really want to do or what you want to have. Think of what you would like to accomplish for you and your loved ones. After you have determined what you really want to have and do you will feel thrilled and excited to start achieving them.

Time to prioritize – After knowing what your dreams and goals are it is time to know which are the most important. You should know which is more realistic and the most possible to achieve. It is also important to put them in order. Bear in mind that you need action not just dreaming.

The above tips are just some to help you know your dreams and how to achieve them. Always bear in mind that they are the product of your heart and mind, therefore, they are unique to you. It starts with you to make them come true.

Just like everybody else, you have a dream and if you are struggling to fulfill your dreams do not give up. It is a reality that not all of your dreams will come true, however, if you give up all of your aspirations for yourself without even trying to realize them, then there really is no way that you will fulfill your dreams.

Perhaps, the first question that you need to ask yourself is how much do you want to make your dreams a reality? It is easy to say you would give anything for your dreams but when the opportunity knocks can you really make the sacrifices required of you? For instance, can you leave a secure job to fulfill your dreams of becoming an artist if given the chance?

On the other hand, there are people who are full of dreams but are not aware of certain truths that might make their dreams unrealistic. A good example of this can be seen in singing auditions where a good number of people are convinced that they can sing when the awful truth is they cannot carry a single tune. So, it is very important that your dreams are realistic. This means that you are aware of both your advantages and your weaknesses. This also means that you are developing your potential and working on overcoming your limitations – whether it is financial, a lack in skills or self-confidence.

Once you know what can potentially hinder you to fulfill your dreams and you have a good idea on how to tackle them, you need to surround yourself with optimism and hope. Be with people who give off a positive energy. If there are people around you who constantly put you down, learn to disregard what they say if you cannot avoid them completely. Believe in yourself. Get inspiration from other people who share your dreams or your values. It will be great if you can find a mentor or a few people who will be ready to uplift you during difficult times.

It is also important to remember that you will not fulfill your dreams in a blink of an eye. The idea of an overnight success is questionable. Even those tagged with this label such as music bands, writers, movie stars cannot honestly say they just woke up one morning and their dreams came true without them doing anything about it. The bands and the actors most likely went to a lot of auditions before they were given their big break. Writers often go through a long process before they are able to finish their first novel.

In other words, whatever your dream is, you need to work at it steadily to make it come true.

Our society is becoming more and more dependant on instant motivation and instant gratification. Our world is moving much faster than it did a generation ago, and we are finding that in order to reach our goals we have to define why it is important for us to do so. It is not uncommon for us to need an immediate reason or cause (such as eliminating illness) in order for us to get motivated to move and work toward our goals. It is no different with weight loss and the eating well and exercising that does with it. Unless we have a reason to be at the gym, we are going to put it off, perhaps indefinitely.

There are a few tricks you can use to find instant motivation in your life, whether it is for losing weight, getting a better job, or changing negative habits. It is first important to remember that not everyone responds to motivational techniques the same way. In order for your motivational cues to be effective, you need to consider what is important to you. For instance, imagining not being at your grandchild’s graduation may get you to stop smoking, but it won’t work for everyone. Use these useful instant motivation tips to get you started, and tailor them as you see fit.

• Visualize the Goal. This is an important step to staying motivated. It is a good idea to help yourself with visualization by drawing or writing your goal on paper, and then posting it where it will be the most effective to you. For instance, instant motivation to eat less is achieved when you see a picture of a thin, beautiful person (or better yet – yourself at your goal weight!) posted on your fridge or cabinet doors. It also helps to take time to meditate, visualizing in your mind for about 15 minutes what the goal will look like when it is reached.

• Enlist in Help. As with anything, having support is a crucial step to succeeding at reaching your goals. If there is nobody to count on, nobody to hold you accountable, it may be difficult for you to follow through. For instance, knowing your buddy will be at the gym waiting for you is instant motivation to make your workout date. Do not entirely rely on your support, however. It is not healthy to blame your support for your lack of trying.

• Imagine the Consequences. These may be different than your reasons, and should be more serious than “looking fat” or “having cigarette breath.” What in your life would change for the worse if you do not follow through with your goals? The risks of dying of a heart attack when your cholesterol is over 300 should be plenty of instant motivation to get you serious about losing weight and improving your health.

• Make your Reasons. Besides knowing what your goal is, it is also just as important to know why you want to reach those goals. You may want to lose weight to lower your risk of heart disease, stop smoking to reduce your chances of getting cancer, or go to the gym so you look great for your high school reunion. Your reasons are your instant motivation, and they will keep you on track when you slip up, or worse, feel like quitting.

Finding instant motivation to get you moving isn’t is hard as it seems. It also doesn’t have to be painful for you to implement, if you keep it fun and rewarding. Motivational gurus know that keeping motivated is the key to making your dreams come true. It is important to remember that they are within reach, and that you can succeed. A positive attitude and a few simple exercises will go a long way in creating instant motivation for you and your goals.

The American Dream is the commonly held ideology that in the United States, one can become prosperous with hard work and a strong will and determination. The concept of American Dream was said to have started with the early wave of Europeans who settled in America in search of a better life. From generation to generation, the idea of the American Dream passed on.

The 1931 book “The Epics of the American’ by James Truslow Adams is where the term “American Dream” first appeared. It was said to have originated from the concept of change away from the old models of government and economy. Additionally, the American Dream originated during the time when many of America’s land resources were yet unclaimed, offering the promise of ownership of land to many immigrants. This opportunity, along with the Industrial Revolution, created many possibilities of prosperity. Hence, there were many rags-to-riches stories that further strengthened the American Dream.

In contrast, life in Europe was difficult and so thousands of immigrants – Irish, Scottish, Italians and other Europeans- dreamed of going to America to make their fortune and many of them, indeed, succeeded. America held out a great promise of a better life for those immigrants and up to this day, the idea of the American Dream is strong in many third-world countries.

Critics of the American Dream say that it is a myth and that only a few people succeeded in making their dreams of prosperity come true and they were only lucky. But the success stories of people like the oil business giant John Rockefeller who came from a poor family and started worked as an apprentice bookkeeper but with talent and great diligence and hard work, he was able to start his own company to become the world’s first billionaire. Such inspiring stories led many to believe in the virtues of the American Dream.

However, more and more people are examining this ideology and enumerating the many problems that surround the achievement of the American Dream such as high-paying jobs that require college education that in turn requires steep tuition fees. Many critics also reject the materialism that is associated with the American Dream because for many its basic idea really comes down to home/property or car ownership. Today, with the problems that beset the American society from national security to healthcare, many people believe that the American Dream has gone farther from their reach.

It seems that practically every day, there is a new fad in teaching kids to read. Fortunately, kids learn to read using a wide variety of styles, so No matter what is in fashion, most of the kids will have very little trouble. Unfortunately, No matter what teaching curriculum is used, some kids have trouble learning to read. There is no single answer on how to learn reading, but if your kid is having difficulties with it, there are many things to try. Unfortunately, there are even more things to avoid.

You see, teaching kids how to read is big business. This means that anytime someone can come up with a new program that promises to solve all of your learning to read problems, they can make a lot of money off of it. The more unscrupulous the business, the more money they stand to make off of learning to read. When I worked as a tutor, I saw this all the time. We would often lose kids to clinics that would promise to raise their reading level 3 to 5 years in six weeks! This promise was impossible, of course, but they would prey off of hopeful parents who just wanted to solve their kids reading problems and have it over with. In reality, learning to read – especially for learning disabled students – can be a long and difficult struggle. Nonetheless, it is worth sticking to it.

If your child is having a problem learning to read, it is crucial that you get him or her tutor. Above all, do not go to one of the big learning centers. The best places to learn to read are small, independent tutoring clinics. Learning to read from the big factories is almost always a mistake. They tend to teach out of a book, and are not able to tailor their programs to individual children’s learning styles. As a parent of a student having trouble learning to read, you need to understand as quickly as possible that there is no simple answer to your child’s learning problems. Only through a combination of strategies will your child successfully learn reading.

Unfortunately, a lot of parents make bad decisions at crucial stages. If your child is having trouble learning to read, the longer you wait, the worse things get. He or she will feel stupid, hopeless, and worthless. I have even seen kids give up learning to read because they have little success with the programs their parents try.

Daily motivation often becomes hard to find. It is sometimes easy to fall into a rut when your daily routine becomes dull and predictable. You may find that it is hard to get out of bed in the morning. Or perhaps you are facing a difficult time in your life and you are having a hard time dealing with what the day has to offer. The following tips might make it easier for you to roll out of bed in the morning by increasing your daily motivation.

Plan Your Day

Take a few minutes of time every night to plan the following day. You might just think it over in your mind, or you might want to write it down. List things that you have to do and things that you want to do. Organize the items on the list and feel comfortable that you are able to complete the tasks. Make sure to plan time to relax! In the morning, you will have an increased sense of daily motivation knowing that your day is planned.

Get Some Sleep

Often, with a decrease in daily motivation comes increased stress and loss of sleep. To start increasing your daily motivation, you must get some rest. Make sure you try to get eight hours of sleep every night. Schedule time to relax and wind down in the evening to better your chances of a good night’s sleep. If relaxing is difficult, try a warm bath, yoga, or relaxation tapes. If lack of sleep is greatly interfering with your daily routine or your health, talk to your doctor about other ways to relax and get some shuteye.

Talk It Out

If you are finding it hard to get through the day, you might need to seek help to maintain daily motivation. Talk to an understanding friend or family member about why your days are so difficult. You might simply need to vent frustration or talk out your problems. If you need help with daily tasks to take pressure off your days, ask the friend or family member for help. If you need help solving a problem, seek their advice. If you do not have a friend or family member to talk to, or if you do not feel comfortable talking about a certain problem with friends or family, you might want to seek the help of a professional psychologist.

Exercise

A great way to start any day and pump up your daily motivation is exercise. Whether you prefer to get your heart pumping on the treadmill, sweat to an aerobics video, or start the day with some yoga, a daily morning exercise routine will jump start your body and improve your mood. In addition, a regular exercise routine and a healthy lifestyle will contribute to a happier you. And the happier you are with your life, the less daily motivation you will need!

Count Your Blessings

When daily motivation is gone and you feel lost, look around you at everything you possess and have achieved. Remember those you love and those that love you, and you will soon create your own daily motivation.

Reward Yourself

Rewards are a great way to motivate! Try rewarding yourself on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis if you achieve a certain goal. The reward can be a night out, a nice meal, a night with your spouse without the kids, that new dress you were eyeing at the store, a new set of golf clubs, or anything that is truly rewarding for you. Once you set that goal and want that reward, daily motivation might come easier than you think!

What drives people to succeed when others fail? Is self motivation only for the “go getters”? It may come as a surprise to many people that even the most influential people have days when they get out of bed and don’t feel motivated. How do those people stay focused and driven towards achieving what they want? In the following paragraphs, you will read everyday tips that anyone can use to keep the spark going.

Make a Goal

This doesn’t have to be complex. Making goals just depends on your desires. Goal setting is one of the most popular ways to develop self motivation. By setting a goal, you have come to a decision on what you want to accomplish. Motivation in this case, can come from wanting to see a goal achieved. For some people though, setting a goal isn’t enough. They face issues with staying on task and following through to the goal.

Switch Gears

Have you ever been involved in something and suddenly found that it no longer interests you? Don’t worry – you are not the only person to experience this lack of self motivation. At one point or another, everyone finds that the task they are doing to goal they are trying to reach no longer holds their interest. When you find yourself experiencing a lack of passion for a task that once held your interest, it’s okay to work on something else. Getting involved in a new project or other task even for a short while can reignite the motivation that you had been missing.

Do Some Reading

Across the world, people find that reading motivational, inspirational, or humorous quotations can help to inspire their self motivation, and often keeps them focused and driven. If reading other people’s funny and inspirational excerpts isn’t for you, then make up your own. If you have a goal, it can help to write it down and post it somewhere you can see it every day. For instance, if you want to stick to your diet write your goal weight on a magnetic dry erase board and put it on the refrigerator. When you are tempted to sneak one last piece of cheesecake, you might think twice when you can see your goal in front of you. Maybe you just need a daily pick me up. Write down that unique saying grandma always said, and whenever you need self motivation, take it out and read it. You’ll feel refreshed and moved, and you will fondly remember someone you love.

Look Within Yourself

Possibly one of the most important things to think about when finding ways to keep your self motivation in the forefront is to look inside you. Take a moment during a time of day that is peaceful to meditate. Jot down your thoughts about what keeps you motivated and reflect on times when you’ve had a great deal of determination. When you think back, you can come to realize that you have the motivation that you need. Through looking to the person you are and taking what you know and have experienced to reach and realize your goals and ideas, you will become better at finding ways to achieve self motivation.

Reward Yourself

Occasionally, a reward for obtaining a halfway mark in reaching a goal can be just the ticket to keeping self motivation from becoming discouraging. Everyone likes to be rewarded for something they have done well. So, whether you are trying to catch up on chores, your to-do list, or lose weight, find a way to reward yourself for working as hard as you have been. It will increase your self motivation, and keep you happier in the long run.
