Cardio Training Options

Cardio Training Options It seems that sometimes there is an all or none mindset when it comes to fitness and weight loss programs, which tends to exclude simple solutions that may dramatically improve your results.

Recently, many people have been reading the benefits of high intensity interval training and how it aids in weight loss. However, there are many die hard endurance runners who enjoy running at a steady state for long distances. Now I know there are a good number of people from that steady-state cardio group that would love to try out some shorter interval based sprints, but are afraid of giving up their 3, 5, or 10 mile runs.

The good news is that you really can do both and by adding in a new type of training to your current program you will begin to feel the effects immediately from the new stimulus. So not only will you become a more well rounded exerciser, but the unfamiliar “shock” to your body will give you a fresh way to break through a plateau.

An easy way to start is by keeping your current cardio training program the same except for just one day. You will substitute one of your steady state cardio sessions with a high intensity interval training day. Of course, if you're doing all interval training now you could certainly try adding in a day of longer endurance based training to challenge your body in that way.
