Did your kid just eat 26 packs of sugar?

That is the question you will see in New York City subway cars. Check out this poster:

sugar Did your kid just eat 26 packs of sugar?

The fine print reads: “All those extra calories can bring on obesity, diabetes and heart disease.”

What gives?

This poster is one of many that comprise a public health effort not just to demonize soda, but to educate people on the connections between lifestyle choices and disease risks for both children and adults.

It’s an attention-getting scheme, for sure, but an effective one: the posters have been the topic of hundreds of print and online news stories, and it’s gotten people talking. Whether it’s actually working to get people to change behavior… well, that is yet to be determined.
