How to Increase Core Strength at Home
By admin on Jun 8, 2010 in Health and Fitness
One great exercise for tightening your waist and increasing core strength is a movement called abdominal "draw-ins."
The way it works is by inhaling deeply and then as you exhale drawing in your "belly button" as far as you can. Your goal is to try to touch it to your spine (as far as you can realistically). You should also aim to hold each draw-in at its deepest point for 10-15 seconds. You can even try this while standing, seated, or lying on your back.
I’ve found that clients who have greatest core strength are able to draw their stomach in at least 1.5 inches from their relaxed waist size. This core strength helps keep their lower backs healthy and allows them to push themselves more intensely during their workouts without as much risk for injury. Plus, this abdominal draw-in can be done anytime and it works to shrink your waist!
