Is it necessary to cut the salt?
By admin on Oct 17, 2010 in Health and Fitness
There is quite a controversy about salt, with decades of research linking it to hypertension. According to a 2010 study published in The New England Journal of Medicine, the benefits would be quite substantial: The researchers calculated that cutting out just a half teaspoon of salt a day would reduce the annual number of new cases of coronary heart disease by 60,000-120,000… stroke by 32,000-66,000, and heart attack by 54,000-99,000.
Further, this small change would potentially reduce the annual number of deaths (from any cause) by 44,000-92,000.
If that’s correct – wow.
