Making Do with What You Have
By admin on Sep 24, 2010 in Health and Fitness
Yesterday I was traveling and as a result my schedule and routine were thrown off from my typical day.
I was in for a long day away from my hotel and I knew I would be heading off to dinner shortly after getting back. As a result, I had to plan my workout for earlier that morning when typically I don’t exercise until after lunchtime.
I ran into another obstacle in my typical routine when I got to the hotel gym and realized all they had there were dumbbells and a few cardio machines. So instead of staying with the program I am currently on I had to improvise. Just like anybody else I don’t like to be thrown off my routine, but I figured it was best to make do with what I had available to me rather than just throwing in the towel and skipping my workout for the day…
An example of how I just substituted exercises for the ones I was currently doing was that I switched my barbell incline chest presses with a dumbbell lying floor chest press (the gym didn’t have a bench). I also substituted my pull ups with a dumbbell bent over row.
Additionally, I always know if a hotel gym doesn’t have any equipment at all I know I can always do bodyweight based exercises or some sprints.
I hope my experience of making do with what you have goes to show that although things may not be perfect you can still stay on track to achieving your goals when you are forced out of your normal routine.
