Short on Time?
By admin on Jun 21, 2010 in Health and Fitness
Today is Father's Day here in the U.S. and this afternoon my whole family is heading over to my parent's house to have a cookout to celebrate.
As a result, my typical Sunday afternoon workout had to be condensed in a way that I could complete it in about half the time (22 minutes). Now I knew that there was no way to complete the full workout without subtracting a lot of sets in half the time so I had to figure out a way to reduce the amount of rest I took between sets.
So here's what I did:
I typically complete 6 resistance exercises done in superset fashion in my Sunday workout. However, since I was short on time today I took out my last exercise which is strictly for my core and did the rest as a circuit workout. That means I blasted through 5 straight exercises with just a few seconds in between movements. At the end of each circuit I then rested about 90-120 seconds before repeating.
Using this program design versus my longer superset day allowed me to complete the full workout in half the time (except for just the 6th exercise). And, as for the exercise I missed I'm just going to add it to the end of my next workout day.
So although it was not my usual planned workout today, I am glad I got my exercises in and didn't decide to just skip the day because I have a busy schedule. Hopefully, you can adapt this formula on the next occasion you find yourself short on time.
